(ADW) The rain didn’t stop good ol’ St. Nicolas, accompanied by angels and the bogeyman, from visiting children in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Just as every year, St. Nicolas and his companions’ train arrived on time at Luxembourg central station. Hosted by the City’s new mayor, Xavier Bettel, and the new deputy mayor, Colette Mart, St Nic was given the keys of the City that he may keep up on Tuesday night.
He then moved into the station’s lobby, where many children and their parents were waiting with impatience. One by one they climbed the podium eager to greet St. Nicolas with a kiss, and hand over drawings or their list of present wishes.
But that was just the start of “St Nicolas on tour” on Sunday. After a meeting with his angels St Nic took the route up Avenue de la Gare making his first stop at the Christmas Market in Place de Paris. His next stop was Clinique St. Therese where a hot chocolate was waiting for him, and the traditional “Drëpp” (eau de vie) for the bogeyman or “Père Fouettard”.
This year, taking advantage Advent Circus, the procession’s next stop was at the Glacis car park. St. Nicolas wished to say hello to all children that were present on Sunday afternoon.
Following the visits came the more traditional procession down Avenue de la Porte Neuve, Grand Rue, towards rue du Marché-aux-Herbes before his penultimate stop at Marche aux Poissons. St. Nicolas’s last destination was Place Guillaume II for a final distribution of sweets for children.
