Two kilos of heroin were seized and five people were arrested after a routine vehicle check led to a criminal investigation.
The routine inspection helped officers in Grevenmacher identify a drug trafficker, who lived in Luxembourg but was working on behalf of an Albanian criminal gang.
A subsequent investigation found that the gang had been transporting heroin and cocaine from Holland, through Luxembourg and then on to Switzerland.
The investigation has also enabled local police to identify a number of drug dealers within the Grand Duchy.
Police also raided a property in Arlon where a large sum of money from drug-related activities was seized. As a result of the investigation, four people were arrested in Luxembourg and one in Belgium under a European arrest warrant.
