(ADW) It was about five years ago when a driver parked a Citroën BX in Luxembourg City's “Place du Théâtre” underground car park, and there it has been ever since, gathering dust.
If the owner now wished to pick up the French registered car, they would have to dig deep into their pockets for it.
The parking fee for one day at Place du Théâtre amounts to €28 . Over five years that makes a whopping €51,000. At that price quite a nice luxury car could be purchased or maybe several Citroëns! Even if the owner held a yearly parking subscription at €3,000, the amount would still come to the handsome figure of €15,000!
Car park owners powerless
Workers at the car park are powerless to do anything. When asked by mywort.lu, they explained that although the address of the Citroen owner had been found by police, they did not know if they still lived there.
Even more of a dilemma is that, bizarrely, the car can't be moved or removed for legal reasons. The vehicle was, and still is, parked legally which means it can't be towed away as it breaks no law. Besides, where would the car be taken? A puzzle for the car park owners.
So there sits the Citroën, quietly on level -3 of Place du Théâtre car park, still gathering dust as the parking ticket cost mounts day by day.
UPDATE
We noticed some other medias both in and out of Luxembourg have picked up on our story, but reported the figures differently. We know first-hand the car has been there since the beginning of 2007 (so 5 years) and that the car park costs €28 per day. No idea where they got their information from!
