Emergency services went into overdrive on December 31 when they attended seven collisions and four fires.
While many residents in Luxembourg were counting down to the start of the New Year, firefighters were in demand, attending first a blaze at a flat in rue Dr Klein, in Mondorf-les-Bains at around 5.30pm. It is not known how the fire broke out but all occupants were evacuated safely. At around 1.30am two fires were reported, one in Syren and a second in Mondorf-les-Bains where a woodpile caught fire. Two hours later, a car was reported on fire in the Pétrusse car park in the capital.
As well as fires, eight people were injured in seven separate collisions around the Grand Duchy. In one collision, at midnight in Schifflange, a child was run over. A pedestrian was seriously injured in Troisvierges when they were knocked down by a car at around 7pm. A motorist was hospitalised with serious injuries after striking a tree in Esch-sur-Alzette at a round 9.30pm.
