Lumi is a word that means many things: “Snow” in Finnish, “Lights” in Italian, “World” in Romanian and even “Lemon” in Maltese! However what Google translate won’t tell you is that it also refers to an upcoming indie-band from Luxembourg – and in capital letters if you please – LUMI.
Despite being a relatively new band, the quartet born out of the European School community back in 2009 has already seen 1 or 2 line-up shuffles and played both small and larger high-brow gigs across the Grand Duchy and beyond: from the little sets at Rocas, d:qliq and Melusina to Rock-um-Knuedler, Mess For Masses, Food For Your Senses and the big daddy of Luxembourg festivals; Rock-A-Field in 2010. LUMI have even released a couple of singles to date: Cold Storm reaching the top 20 in Luxembourg charts and have just released “Curtains”.
Album release party at Exit07
Now LUMI, with their distinct indie/disco sound and melodic female vocals from Christy Frieden, with echoes of Blondie (at least in the opinion of this journalist), have now settled down with a solid line-up. With a load of fresh songs under their belt, Edwin, Jussi, Christy and Julius are now proudly releasing their first album together entitled “Cycles”.
And 6 January at Exit07 is when the celebration of LUMI's 11-track album launch takes place. An evening of live music not only from the band themselves but, E-Minor, Cristobal and the Sea and Yehan Jehan & Antimatter People from the UK, as well as Hadrian – one part of the band originating in Luxembourg, Natas Loves You.
The whole event starts at 8pm and entrance costs €7 with the album itself at a special launch price of €7, rising to €12 after the event when it will be released on iTunes and Amazon.
