Spectators will be transported back in time nearly forty years when a play-cum-cabaret show about the 1973 Eurovision song contest is unveiled in Luxembourg's Grand Théâtre.
The contest, which was hosted by Luxembourg, was marred by controversy when Spanish entry "Eres tú" (by Mocedades) was accused of plagiarism because of similarities in the melody with the 1966 Yugoslav entry.
1973, as the play is entitled, sets out in part to celebrate the kitsch behind the show which divides audiences while at the same time making a serious comment on musical pop icons.
A bewigged, cross-dressing Massimo Furlan plays each character with cabaret flair but audiences should expected to be jolted from full immersion into the cheese fest when it the show takes on a hyper-intellectual twist.
1973 is performed from January 6 to 7 at the Grand Théâtre. Shows begin at 8pm. The performance is in French with English and German subtitles.
