(CS) The teenage wizard Harry Potter's final adventure beat the Muggle rivals to the top position of the Luxembourg cinema charts, drawing 39,800 visitors to the big screen.
With 38,400 viewers the fourth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbeantook second place, ahead of Hangover Part Two's 37,500 visitors.
The rainy summer proved cinema gold, according to cinema groups Utopia and Caramba. While the sunny spring was not a promising start to the year followed by a mild autumn, the cinema operators nonetheless pronounced 2011 a successful year.
The most popular Luxembourg film in 2011 proved to be Bauereblues, a documentary on Luxembourg farmers. Attracting an audience of 5,900 it was ahead of Hot Hot Hot (2,650) and The Road Uphill (2,550).
Other popular films include: Intouchables (37,200), The Adventures of Tintin (34,900), Rien à déclarer (34,600), Cars 2 (31,500), The Smurfs (28,500), Puss in Boots (26,400), The King's Speech (26,000), The Twilight Saga (24,900), Kung Fu Panda 2 (24,200), Johnny English Reborn (23,000), Black Swan (22,900), Rio (21,500), Transformers 3 (19,800), Bad Teacher (19,600), Kokowääh (18,000), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (14,900), and Midnight in Paris (14,400).
As some of these films are still on cinema bills across the country, these figures are strictly for the year 2011.
Utopia and Caramba are expecting 2012 to be a good year for cinemas with exciting releases planned for the coming twelve months including several Luxembourg co-productions.
