Rescue workers worked nonstop on Thursday morning as storm Andrea swept through Luxembourg, felling trees and causing accidents.
Strong winds coupled with torrential rain left many roads blocked with fallen trees, prompting more than a dozen calls to rescue workers.
According to ACL, among the roads affected were the Consdorf-Christnach road, Giewelsmillion to Wiltz, Findel N1, N10 from Hoesdorf to Bettl, the N2 between Moutfort and Assel, the N17 between Fouhren and Vianden, Erpeldange to Mechel, Siweburen to Bridge and Michelbouch to Colmar-Berg.
The storm intensified at around noon, with thunder, lightning and hail lashing down on the Grand Duchy. The extreme weather is thought to have contributed to a number of collisions, prompting calls for motorists to drive cautiously.
Following the torrential rain, there were also flood warnings on roads between Merl and Schléiwenhaff, the Glück roundabout and along the Moselle river.
According to the River Navigation Service, the Moselle was gradually rising by four centimetres per hour at Stadtbredimus, four inches per hour in Grevenmacher and two inches per hour in Reich. It was expected that the river will reach the high risk threshold in some areas during Thursday afternoon.
