(CS) The search for a scooter driver said to have been caught by river currents in a flooded area of the Moselle has been called off.
A woman had called the police in the German border area between Wasserbilligerbrück and Igel on Friday morning, saying she had witnessed a scooter driver being carried off by the waters as he was driving on a flooded cycling path.
A search was immediately initiated assisted by Luxembourg rescue services. The Moselle was searched with two boats and the flooded bank of the river was patrolled by a tractor for several hours.
The 60-strong rescue force could find no sign of the driver or the vehicle, leaving doubts whether anyone did actually fall into the Moselle.
The Trier police have now taken charge of the case.
