(CS) Luxembourg's 2011 bestsellers have been revealed, with cook books doing well both on the national and international lists, including Cucina Mia, Ketty Thull and Britain's Jamie Oliver.
The UK chef's 30-Minute Meals proved popular with Luxembourg audiences, coming in at number 10 on the international bestseller list. Oliver's 30-minute recipes also came second in the UK's 2011 bestseller list by sales value, according to The Guardian, making for a successful year for the Naked Chef.
Topping the international listing is Ranga Yogeshwar's German title “Ach so!”, explaining everyday mysteries and scientific wonders. Yogeshwar, of Luxembourgish and Indian descent, frequently appears on German television making science understandable to the masses.
In the national 2011 bestseller list, other cook books also fared well. The revised edition of Luxembourg classic Ketty Thull ranks second, followed by “Kache bei all Wieder” (Cooking in all Weather), RTL meteorologist Max Kuborn's epicurean work. Cucina Mia comes in sixth place, giving an insight into Italian cooking in the Grand Duchy.
In the number one spot is De Sproochmates by Alain Atten. Published by Editions Schortgen, the book brings together Luxembourg idioms and proverbs, trying to put down in writing many of the country's oral traditions.
Three publications by Saint-Paul have also made their way into the national bestseller list. “Tipps mit Links 2” gives useful tips and tricks around the house by houseman Paul Müller. In places eight and ten are the Velomania 2011 and 2010 books.
Prevalent in both the national and the international bestseller lists are non-fiction titles, with only four fiction titles in the international bestselling top ten.
