(CS) Prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker called for more solidarity and courage to battle the ongoing crisis and forge plans for the future, in his speech given at the CSV New Year's reception.
Juncker emphasised that it was time to take a differentiated look at social policies, and not give more to those who already have everything. While he said that this would take courage and might not satisfy everyone, the leader said it was necessary to help those suffering most under the crisis.
The premier also criticised the “speechlessness” in regards to current problems, alluding to the Tripartite boycott in December, saying it was necessary to make decisions to balance state finance in a socially and economically viable way.
Among the changes the country is grappling with is also the much debated school reform. Juncker said schools had not caught up with the social change of the last 30 years in preparing students not only for professional life, but also turning them into responsible citizens.
At the Tuesday reception at the Centre Barblé in Strassen, the head of the CSV Michel Wolter, said that 2012 would set the party's direction for the future and that the government had the support of the CSV.
Secretary general Marc Spautz continued the call for change in the Grand Duchy, highlighting the need for job creation in the industrial sector and craftsmanship, while ensuring that the young were well prepared for their further studies and the job market.
