(ADW) A horrific road accident occurred on Thursday evening when three occupants of a van were thrown out of the vehicle after it smashed into a car with force, resulting in serious injury. The car driver, also seriously injured, was trapped after the impact.
It was on the busy N15/N12 route between Buderscheid and Heiderscheid at about 4:30pm when the accident took place. For yet unexplained reasons, on a wet road the two vehicles collided, completely destroying the car and overturning the van onto its roof.
When emergency services arrived, the three van occupants were discovered lying near the wreckage having been thrown out of the vehicle by the impact of the accident.
The car driver’s legs became trapped by the completely crumpled vehicle, a child on the back seat, according to initial reports, was only slightly injured.
Wreckage of both vehicles was spread over a wide area around the accident site. The van was discovered to have been transporting several full petrol cans that began partially leaking, adding to the danger and releasing a strong odour.
Help for the injured
While the ambulance services administered initial medical help to the three van occupants, the fire department was busy trying to rescue and free the trapped car driver. Hydraulic equipment was needed to free the driver’s legs before being pulled from the wreckage and discovered to be seriously injured.
All the injured were rushed to Ettelbruck and Wiltz hospitals.
The wreckage and debris strewn across the surrounding area was so widespread, it was not before 9pm that the blocked road could be opened again to traffic.
