(ADW) Waiting to receive the CAR-e bonus now takes ten months! However, "by July we will only be three months late," stated Marco Schank, Minister of Sustainable Development.
The CAR-e bonus scheme, set-up by the government in 2008 to promote the purchase of greener cars and renewed for the year 2012, has become a victim of its own success. Over 30% of cars bought in Luxembourg in 2011 produced emissions of less than 120g of CO2 per km with 9.9% of new registrations less than 100g per km.
The Administration of the Environment is overwhelmed with CAR-e bonus demands: "We’ve received 27,500 requests of which 22,000 have already been addressed," explained Marco Schank at the presentation of Autofestival 2102. And the Minister noted that if the "delay is now ten months, it is assumed that by July, we will only be three months late."
A delay that he explains is due to the fact that many demands have not been completed correctly. "50% of requests are incomplete, so it takes longer to receive bonuses." Marco Schank appealed to garages and car dealership owners and workers at the conference, to help customers to complete and submit their applications correctly.
