Generous-hearted sportspeople presented a much-needed massage table to Luxembourg's only independent palliative care hospice.
Representatives from Kick Cancer Into Touch, a group which raises funds through sporting activities in Luxembourg, collected 5,000 euros during touch rugby events and a charity golf tournament in 2011.
The funds raised enabled Haus Omega to purchase a top-of-the-range massage table for its patients in Hamm.
The hospice was opened at the end of 2010 by Omega90 asbl to provide 15 rooms for patients with life-limiting illnesses as well as two hotel bedrooms for guests. The goal of the palliative care hospice is to provide comfort through medical and therapeutic treatments.
Omega90 director general Henri Grün said at the cheque presentation: “KCIT has already done a lot for Omega90 and we're very grateful for all their support.
“This gift will increase the comfort of the people staying here. I think it's a large sum of money and thank KCIT very much on behalf of the patients.”
Director of Haus Omega Michel Keilen added: “Part of our therapeutic work involves gentle massage with our patients. That's why we need a massage table that's very comfortable like this one. It's not the cheapest massage table but it's what we need for the people who have lost a lot of weight."
Omega90 was founded in 1990 to promote palliative care in Luxembourg. Since KCIT was founded ten years ago, it has donated more than 20,000 euros to the asbl.
