(CS) Sustainability minister Claude Wiseler gave his unlimited support for the Luxembourg tram in an interview with the Luxemburger Wort.
The tram will be necessary to ease congestion, especially during rush-hour traffic, Wiseler said. The tram would mean less buses in the centre of town, leaving more room for other road users. These were currently an additional burden on the already congested main routes through town.
The maximum capacity of buses during morning and evening rush hour was reached, Wiseler said. But, he said, it was not viable to let drivers and buses wait for rush-hour periods during the day, so they had to keep circulating perforce to offer a full range of public transport.
For the upcoming Autofestival, Wiseler said he wished buyers to chose cars low in emissions or electric cars, which were a suitable option for the short distances covered in Luxembourg.
