(ADW) Last week American Chamber of Commerce staged one of their “Health is Wealth” events at St. Georges School in Hamm, proving popular with a large turnout out people clutching their exercise mats ready for spot of workout.
But first came the informative lectures: First Dr Marc Keipes from the Zitha Clinic in Luxembourg City, to talk about the state of health in Luxembourg and just what we should be doing and not doing with our bodies.
Then a special guest from the UK took to the floor, former international athlete Chris Williams presenting his lecture with a thought-provoking theme that we should treat our bodies as a business. “If many of us would look at the way we treat our bodies as a business model, we’d be approaching bankruptcy!” he said. Indeed his point of only reacting and changing our lifestyles when symptoms of declining health occurred was a bad business model. Chris pointed out that when you run a business, your forecast, set out financial plans and budgets and adjust appropriately, otherwise the business would face bankruptcy. “It’s no different for our bodies” stated Chris warning pointing out the bankruptcy reference is our health meant premature death.
Chris Williams also tackled problems of stress in a modern technology-filled world and the importance of escaping it in health-related terms, before everyone traipsed over the school’s gym to take part in the Chris Williams “Hotel Room Workout” programme.
Chris’s workout is specially tailored as an exercise programme that can be carried out in a small space, hence the name, concentrating on two specific areas: strength/resistance and aerobics.
“Remember, more active – more often!” was message participants took away with them.
