(CS) In the aftermath of the July massacre on Utøya Island and the bombing in Oslo, two Norwegian blacksmiths started a call for roses forged from iron, to create a sculpture remembering the victims.
Hundreds of thousands of roses were dropped at memorial sites across Norway in the days and weeks after the shooting last year and the rose became a symbol of a country in mourning.
To create a lasting memorial, blacksmiths Tobbe Malm and Tone Mörk Karlsrud from Oslo started a page on Facebook calling on their fellow craftsmen to forge roses from iron and send them to Norway.
After the Christmas holidays they posted that over 200 roses from all over the world so far have found their way to the Norwegian capital.
Among them are roses sent by Luxembourg blacksmiths. Aloyse Kieffer sent a rose in the name of the Stater Schmatten, and mywort reporter Paul Hinger joined Romain Schleich from Wecker as he forged his iron rose for Norway.
All the roses, each around 40cm in length, will eventually be turned into one sculpture to remember the 77 victims, mainly children and teenagers, who died in the events of July 22, 2011.
