An HR specialist has appealed to companies in Luxembourg to battle rising levels of unemployment and to consider the human aspect.
Head of the Luxembourg Professional Recruitment Association Marios Paras made the call to arms at the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) New Year's party, hosted by the US Embassy to Luxembourg.
He said: “Many times when we discuss issues of HR most of us go into the technical side and forget about the people. I've seen a lot of technical decisions about the processes but very little about the people who are real and need help finding a job. We've an obligation to carry that cause.”
Mr Paras called on the business leaders and dignitaries gathered at the residence to look into their hearts and find meaningful jobs for people who are out of work.
“That's our cause as company leaders and as individuals: to ensure that Luxembourg continues to prosper so that more funds come in. And let's not forget about the people who are needy,” he added.
It was the first time that Amcham had hosted a New Year's Party. Amcham president Paul Schonenberg said: “We set this evening up because we thought that it would be nice to invite senior members of the Amcham community and also some political leaders. We think it's nice in Luxembourg to increase the dialogue between the political classes and business owners to make sure that when decisions are made they are made in a way that's business-friendly and we can continue to keep Luxembourg moving forward with prosperity."
Among the honoured guests was Employment Minister Nicolas Schmit.
