(CS) School students in Luxembourg can now use their iPhones to check meal plans, but payment for meals was unfeasible as Apple demanded a 30% share of payments.
The Restopolis App will allow students at Luxembourg school to check what is on the menu for the next seven days at their school, as well as checking the balance on their canteen payment cards.
It had been intended that payment for the school lunches via the app could also be implemented. However, Apple demanded a 30% share from all payments, making the offer impracticable.
Currently, parents can upload credit for their children online or students can add to their balance in cash at the canteen. The app payment function was intended as a way to keep children from bringing cash to school.
However, an app with Apple competitor Android is in the works, according to a ministry of education spokesperson, which might allow for payment via smartphone.
