(CS) In the night to Friday a further incident at nuclear power plant Cattenom led to production facility 2 being shut down, following a technical fault at one of the alternators.
According to a press statement the reactor shut down automatically. The alternator lies outside of the nuclear area of the plant. It serves to convert the mechanical energy from the turbines into electricity.
The cause of the fault is unknown at this point and an investigation into the matter has been launched.
Meanwhile, the incident is said to have had no impact on the general security, the environment or the safety of employees. The production units 1, 3 and 4 are still in use and continue to produce electricity.
