Smoke was seen pouring from a production unit at Cattenom's nuclear power station on Saturday afternoon.
The incident at the plant located a few kilometres from the Luxembourg border reportedly posed no safety risk to staff or the surroundings, says plant directors.
According to a press statement from the Emergency Relief Administration, smoke was seen coming from a heater in a cupboard at production unit 4. The smoke triggered an alarm overnight from Friday to Saturday morning.
Response teams at the plant were sent to locate the source of the smoke. At 3.15pm firefighters confirmed that there were no flames involved and that fumes, which are normally ventilated during a breakdown, were the source of the smoke.
"The event had no impact on plant safety, staff safety or the safety of the surrounding environment. There were no consequences either for the production unit," said the division for civil protection.
