If you spend a lot of time brooding over problems, it may be time to let go as you will be a happier person for it.
According to a study by Luxembourg and Würzburg universities, people have a happier outlook if they don't wallow in their problems.
The study points to pensioners as a case in point. It found that this part of the population tends to brood less and is generally happier with their lives than younger people.
Surveying 300 people aged from 15 to 87 years old, researchers found that those who pondered most ended up less satisfied with their lives. Meanwhile respondents who were aged 63 years old and above had fewer negative thoughts than their younger counterparts.
The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between aging and factors leading to depression. Researchers hoped to find out if different ways of thinking could affect the onset of depression.
What they found was that people who fixate on negative thoughts rather than acting on them showed a higher tendency to be resentful and depressed.
