The lifeless body of a builder was pulled from a pit at a construction site in Dudelange earlier on Monday.
It is thought that the 44-year-old man, who comes from Esch-sur-Alzette, suffered fatal injuries when he fell five metres into a storm water catchment pool.
The man's colleagues did not notice the accident until the worker's body was discovered in the pool at around 12.15pm. Attempts to resuscitate the man failed and he was later declared dead.
The team was working on a construction site at what was formerly a Warehouses Service Agency building in Dudelange.
Following the incident, a representative from the Inspection du Travail et des Mines, which monitors working conditions, was at the scene, as well as a psychologist and doctor.
