(ADW) In its eco-mobility strategy, focusing on promoting sustainable and non-motorized public transport the Luxembourg government has decided to move up a gear in the field of electric mobility. The goal: 40,000 electric cars and 850 public charging stations in the Grand Duchy by 2020. All this at a cost of around 10 million euros.
According to recent reports, Luxembourg's transportation sector exceeds 60% of national energy consumption, while the average daily journey length in one direction for private cars within Luxembourg does not exceed 60km. While these figures seem startling, one must take into consideration how much of the 60% is “fuel tourism” or cross-border consumption and not Luxembourg residents at all.
