(CS/dpa) On the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels, Premier Jean-Claude Juncker has announced that he will not be running for the office of euro group president again.
Juncker took the position of euro group president in 2005, and was reconfirmed to the post in 2010 for two and a half years. As his tenure expires in mid-2012, questions arose at the EU summit in Brussels as to who would run for the position.
“Definitely not me,” said Juncker in response. He had already announced in September 2011 that he would not seek to continue his office as head of the euro group, when it became clear that the post would become a full-time position led from Brussels.
Juncker's departure will mark the end of his third tenure as head of the euro group.
