The first electric and solar ferry
which will connect Oberbillig and Wasserbillig from next month was
launched on Friday.
The €1.7
million ferry, named Santa Maria II,
measures almost 28m long and 8.90m wide.
It will carry 45
passengers and six cars per trip and is said to be more modern
and much more ecological and silent than the previous one.
Around 14,000 litres of diesel can be saved evry year with the new ferry and it is also equipped with new lithium-polymer batteries, improved electronic charging technology and new electric motors. The ship's hull lines have been optimised to reduce water movement by 10%.
