Whoever thought the shopping landscape in Differdange was too boring can rejoice! The new "Opkorn" shopping centre, which has an Auchan supermarket and places for 27 businesses, is opening its doors on Thursday.
This time the shopping mile was not built on a green meadow, but in the middle of Differdange's urban area, wedged between the city centre and "Fousbann".
While the new residential district of the "Plateau du funiculaire" extends behind it, two high-rise buildings with numerous apartments are planned in the immediate vicinity.
The pupils of the international school will also be looking forward to the shopping centre which is only a stone's throw away from their school buildings. A high school and a primary school will be added to the international school in coming years.
The construction site in front of the door
The whole project has one big problem though: circulation. Even though the Differdange ring road opened recently, the renovation of the crossing at the entrance of the city will still take a while to be completed.
The roundabout at the city entrance is to be replaced in the coming days by a road layout with traffic lights. In the long term, crossings will be spread to enable more lanes to be drawn for more directions. An intelligent traffic light system should then ensure traffic flow.
