Speeding fines won't always come by registered post in Luxembourg
Certain motorists caught speeding by a Luxembourg speed camera will no longer receive their fine by registered post thanks to a change in the procedure.
30.11.2016
(MF/JB) Certain motorists
caught speeding by a Luxembourg speed camera will no longer receive
their fine by registered post.
They will now just receive a letter sent via standard postal delivery.
The
new rule applies only to drivers with the lowest speed excess, who
receive a 49-euro fine but do not lose any points on their licence.
If these speeding
motorists who fail to settle up within the prescribed time limit,
however, will receive a second fine, this time by registered post.
If, after 45
days of receiving the registered post fine (this is the second time the fine will be sent) the driver still does not
pay, the fine will rise to 75 euros.
Failure to pay this higher fine will
result in Customs and Excise confiscating the vehicle.
The
change was adopted by the Government Council on Wednesday to simplify
the administrative procedure of issuing speeding penalties.
It
comes six months into the project to roll out 20 speed cameras across
Luxembourg, which has so far recorded 168,354 speeding offences.
The
government considered it unnecessary for affected offenders to have
to go to the post office to collect a registered post fine, since 80%
of those concerned pay before the time limit expires.
