(sth) – A
counter-petition to calls for Luxembourgish to be made the country's
official language has collected enough signatures to be discussed in
Parliament. Petition 725 entitled “NO to Luxembourgish as first
official language” has collected the necessary 4,500 signatures
already two weeks ahead of the deadline on December 6.
The petition was a
reaction to petition 698 which calls for Luxembourgish to be made the
first official language of the country. This pro-Luxembourgish
petition was able to collect the necessary 4,500 signatures in record
time and even went far beyond that with a record 15,500 signatures.
No date has yet been fixed for the discussion of this petition in
Parliament.
