The traditional annual "Miertchen" event in Vianden on Sunday proved a bit more spectacular than planned when a large explosion occurred at a bonfire.
Miertchen takes place at the beginning of November to celebrate the arrival of winter and brings together the town's residents who parade through the streets with candle lanterns until the reach a bonfire made of spruce trees wrapped in straw and rags and set light to it.
