According to a document
obtained by Luxemburger Wort, Mudam director Enrico Lunghi, who
recently announced his resignation, will sue for defamation following
the TV report broadcast by RTL October 3 in the show "Den Nol op de
Kapp" in which he was accused of assault.
He believes
that this matter is seriously prejudicial towards him to such an extent
he was forced to publicly apologise for acts he denies.
The document is
addressed to the International Committee of Museums and Collections
of Modern Art (CIMAM), in which he announces that he withdraws his
candidacy for the upcoming elections. He explains the events that led
up to him taking the decision to resign as MUDAM's director.
CIMAM on Monday,
showed its support for Enrico Lunghi."We artists,
curators, gallery directors, friends of the arts, offer our deepest sympathies to Enrico Lunghi. Luxembourg critics have attacked him for
years.
Enrico Lunghi
resigned from the MUDAM. Everywhere pressure against those defending
free and ambitious contemporary art is increasing. The conditions
that prompted Enrico Lunghi to resign is a bad blow to us all. They
are also un-democratic."
CIMAM reveals Lunghi has asked
to return to public service. He wants preferably to work in a field
related to research or the teaching of contemporary art.
According to Wort information, Enrico Lunghi submitted his resignation on October
28 by registered post to Princess Stephanie, the chairperson of the
board for the Grand Duke Jean Foundation.
