Many expat trick-or-treaters will be disappointed on Monday night, as Halloween is not a holiday traditionally celebrated in the Grand Duchy, but one local custom is strikingly similar to its UK and US counterpart and is experiencing something of a revival.
This tradition is the so-called “Trauliicht”, a lantern carved from a turnip in Luxembourg, but bearing a strong resemblance to the pumpkin jack-o'-lantern more commonly spotted on door steps and window sills in the lead-up to Halloween.
