A draft law to bring additional special
educational needs centres to Luxembourg was discussed in a parliament
committee on Wednesday.
The proposed bill includes expanding on
five existing structures and introducing three new centres for pupils
with learning disabilities, behavioural problems and also advanced
pupils.
The five existing structures focus on
speech impediments, visual impairments, brain injuries and
differentiated education.
A statement by the Chambre des Deputés
stated that competence centres are independent from schools and "contribute to the development of specialised teaching skills and
allocate the necessaey resources to the target population".
The bill highlights that parents should
have the final say on whether to send their child to a specialised
school.
