US National Park Service turns 100
“Our national parks demonstrate to the world, which sometimes views America as the consummate capitalist, that we value something beyond what money can buy," US Ambassador to Luxembourg David McKean has said of the parks.
(AFP/NG) On Thursday, the US National Park Service commemorates its centennial anniversary by welcoming visitors into all 59 of its national parks for free through Sunday.
Yellowstone National Park became the world's first national park in 1872. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the “Organic Act” which pledged to conserve and protect America's natural heritage and wildlife “for the enjoyment of future generations.”
