(ADW) Luxembourg's new French-language radio station “L'essentiel Radio” launched on Monday morning broadcasting live for the first time with much pomp and ceremony.
It was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister and Culture Minister, Xavier Bettel, who also doubled-up as the radio station's first guest.
“A francophone radio station has a place in the Grand Duchy”, Bettel said.
"As Prime Minister I need people to be informed and radio is an important channel of information”.
He also added that the new radio station could "transcend borders and follow people home from their workplace.”
L'essentiel Radio now broadcasts on the FM frequency 107.7 Mhz, which was previously the home of DNR Radio until it ceased broadcasting on March 31, 2014.
The new station broadcasts a mixture of news and music, and should fit comfortably into the country's media landscape as the first FM radio station to broadcast purely in French.
