The new legal age to get a tattoo or piercing in Luxembourg could be set at 16 and those aged between 16 and 18 could need parental consent,
members of the parliamentary
health committee have advised.
It was discussed in parliament this
week as part of a draft law on the regulation of tattoos and
piercings.
The draft law also recommends that the
consent documents which clients sign before having a tattoo or
piercing should be kept for five years.
During the discussions in parliament, a
number of MPs expressed their concerns about racist or discriminatory
tattoos. Health Minister Lydia Mutsch said tattoo artists are
planning on developing a code of ethics.
The draft law outlines that tattoo
artists and piercers must undergo a hygiene training of at least 21
hours.
