Parents association could suggest educational changes

Luxembourg's Education Minister Claude Meisch has
put forward a draft law to create a parent representation group at a
national level.
There are currently such groups in
place in various communes but no official national structure exists.
The group's role would be to represent
parents before the education ministry, put forward an opinion on
legislative text and actively propose changes.
The draft law recommends that the group
consists of 12 representatives elected for a three-year period. Four
parents would represent primary education, six for secondary and two
for pupils with specific needs.
Meisch presented the draft law in
parliament this week but some MPs expressed concerns that parents
with pupils in the traditional education system (secondaire
classique) would be over-represented compared with those whose
children opted for professional training.
