Just over 34,000 vehicles in Luxembourg are affected by the Volkswagen emissions-cheating scam, it has been confirmed.
The revised figure of 34,218 was provided by Losch garages and brings the number down considerably from the 43,000 originally estimated.
After an internal analysis, performed with the necessary attention to detail by Losch Import, with the support of the Luxembourg authorities, we have found that 34,218 vehicles manufactured from 2008 to 2015 are affected in Luxembourg,” the garage said.
Of that figure, 18,219 are Volkswagen cars or commercial vehicles, 9,823 are Audi brands, 3,570 are SKODA and 2,606 are SEAT.
The Volkswagen scam, which emerged in September, revealed that the carmaker had fitted up to 11 million diesel cars worldwide with devices that can switch on pollution controls when they detect the car is undergoing testing.
They then switch off the controls when the car is on the road, allowing it to spew out harmful levels of emissions.
The affected vehicles are equipped exclusively with diesel engines of type EA 189.
New vehicles of the Volkswagen Group with diesel EU6, currently marketed
in the European Union, meet legal requirements and environmental standards.
The analysis by Losch has helped identify all holders of affected vehicles in Luxembourg, who will be informed individually by mail shortly.
Losch Import assured its customers that all vehicles continue to be technically safe and roadworthy.
The Volkswagen Group will in October draw up a strategy for fitting the technical solutions and vehicles will be updated from the start of January 2016.
