A total of 15 trees are to be uprooted between Kopstal and Schoenfels in the name of road safety, to be replaced by roadside guardrails instead, it has been reported.
The work on the road 101 starting on Thursday, will also make areas for police cars to safely park in order to carry out roadside checks.
Fully-grown trees do represent possible mortal danger for motorists in a crash and their current positions mean that no guardrail can be installed, hence their imminent removal.
From speeds as low a 35km per hour an accident against a tree can have fatal consequences.
The trees however will not be lost and will be replanted elsewhere.
