(JB) Amnesty Luxembourg has warned the public not to donate money to people claiming to be collecting for the human rights organisation in the capital.
According to the not for profit, there have been a number of reports of individuals soliciting cash donations from passersby allegedly on behalf of Amnesty.
“Unfortunately, these are false collections. Amnesty International reminds the public that the association never asks for money in the street. The only real employees Amnesty hires are those who solicit support in the form of monthly standing order or direct debit, and are easily identifiable by their clothes, which are in the colours of the association and their badge,” the organisation said in a statement.
Amnesty Luxembourg will in November launch its traditional candle campaign, which serves as its biggest fundraising event of the year.
If you have a doubt when confronted by someone claiming to collect for Amnesty, contact the Luxembourg branch by calling 48 16 87 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
