(JB) Members of the public are invited to pay their respects to the Father of the Indian Nation Mahatma Gandhi in Luxembourg to mark India's national holiday on Friday.
Oktober 2 commemorates Gandhi Jayant, the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was born in 1869 and is credited with freeing India from British Rule through non-violent actions.
On June 15, 2007, The United Nations General Assembly announced that October 2 will be celebrated around the world as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Both occasions will be marked in Luxembourg with a short ceremony by the Gandhi statue in Luxembourg City's Municipal Park opposite the Luxembourg City Synagogue on Avenue Monterey.
It begins at 6pm.
