(JB) A lorry travelling through Luxembourg lost almost its entire load when a fire broke out on the HGV during the early hours of Tuesday.
The fire began at around 2.30am as the driver was travelling through Windhof, in the west of Luxembourg. He was able to pull into a car park, unhitch the trailer and call emergency services.
Firefighters from Koerich fought to extinguish the flames, which had taken hold of the lorry contents, which for the most part consisted of packing materials and cardboard.
In order to extinguish the fire completely, the lorry contents had to be unloaded by hand by the firefighters, who wore breathing apparatus. An empty chemical tank at the front of the lorry was spared from the fire and was unloaded by forklift.
It took around two hours for the all-clear signal to be given. Emergency services said it was unclear how the fire broke out.
