(JB) Readers can be among the first to travel (virtually) in a Luxembourg motorway tunnel before it opens to the public thanks to an exclusive video produced by the Luxemburger Wort.
The tunnel and road stretching 8.5 kilometres between Waldhof and Lorentzweiler mark the last link in the chain for the A7 motorway or Route du Nord.
It opens to motorists for the first time on September 23, 2015, enabling vehicles to access the northern motorway without passing through congested urban areas.
Work began to extend the northern motorway 18 years ago. A first section linking Kirchberg and Waldhof opened in 2002, followed by another linking Mersch and Lorentzweiler in 2008.
The last section of the 700 million-euro project suffered a number of setbacks. With the new section complete, the motorway will span a total distance of 31.5 kilometres.
Before the road and tunnel open to traffic, this Sunday runners participating in the Tunnellaf can get a sneak peek at the area.
