There I was, pedaling my bike across the wooded hillside above Lorentzweiler, oohing and ahhing at the intermittent sandstone formations there that resembled nothing so much as massive waves of butterscotch cake frosting.

Then I spotted it, wedged in a crevice in one of the formations—a gated glass door, through which I could see a small chapel that’d been bored right out of the out of the rock.
