Euro-area finance ministers chose their Portuguese counterpart, Mario Centeno, to head the so-called Eurogroup in a bid to boost reforms in the currency union as the region’s economic recovery takes hold.
Centeno, 50, who will succeed Jeroen Dijsselbloem of the Netherlands next month at the key euro area post, has a job cut out for him, as the bloc strives to complete its banking union and narrow the economic gap across the region.
