French president Emmanuel Macron is to use this week's Anglo-French summit to push the UK to join a new European defence initiative, aimed at ever-closer integration of Europe's armed forces.
The European Intervention Initiative (EII) was one of the more eye-catching proposals outlined in a groundbreaking speech by Macron at the Sorbonne university in Paris last September that called for an overhaul of the EU in the wake of Brexit.
