Luxembourg Airport has been certified as meeting European Union standards after nearly four years of work, the government said late on Tuesday.
Measures taken to fix deficiencies included; redesigning and repainting markings on aprons, taxiways and the runway, adapting and replacing spotlights, a new safety course for all personel and the creation of an inspection team, the government said in a statement.
"Specialists, operators and organisations acting in and around the airport worked together on a laborious process with one common goal: improving safety," Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure François Bausch said in the statement.
There is still work to do, the government said.
The runway will be renovated in 2019 and 2020. Signs need to be relaced, electrical and water systems improved and approach lights and masts will be replaced, the government stated.
In total 64 "non-compliances" will be addressed, it said.
Certification came from the Civil Aviation Directorate, the government explained.
