Luxembourg's first elected fellow for European Academy of Sciences

A Luxembourg professor has been elected as fellow of an international association that includes the "most distinguished scholars and engineers" of advanced technologies research.

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is a non-profit, non-governmental, independent organisation that aims to strengthen European science and advise other European bodies on the improvement of research, technological application and social development.

Professor Jens Kreisel is the first scientist in Luxembourg to receive the nomination and has been elected within EurASc's divison of materials science.

He is director of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology's (LIST) Materials Research and Technology department and chair of the Luxembourg National Research Fund's (FNR) PEARL programme, which aims to strengthen Luxembourg's research environment.

FNR said Prof Kreisel would be an ambassador for Luxembourg. 

"To date, Prof Kreisel is the only scientist in Luxembourg to have received this nomination," it added.

EurASc has 600 fellows, 40 of which hold a Nobel Prize or a Fields Medal.
