Luxembourg City could be connected by tram to Esch-sur-Alzette by 2030 after Transport Minister François Bausch on Wednesday committed to present a draft financing bill for the project before the end of next year.
Along the tram route connecting the Grand Duchy’s capital with country’s second biggest city in the south, there would also be a cycle path and a lane specially reserved for people carpooling to help more commuters escape the country's notorious rush hour traffic jams.
The tram route should also serve the towns of Leudelange, Mondercange, Schifflange, Esch-sur-Alzette and Sanem, when it is extended to Esch-Schifflange, although no date has been given for this.
It should then take 14 minutes for people to get from Esch-sur-Sure to the Ban de Gasperich business area in the south of Luxembourg City. The tram would pass every 7 minutes between the two cities in peak hours.
