Twelve more people lost their lives from Covid-19 over the weekend, data from the health ministry showed, with the spread of the virus showing no let-up as Luxembourg hunkers down for its second lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
There were 565 new infections each on Saturday and Sunday, above the 500 mark that led to Prime Minister Xavier Bettel's decision to bring additional restrictions on how many people can get together and the closure of bars, restaurants and fitness centres.
The latest figures show that 203 patients are currently in hospital, including 42 in intensive care.
Bettel stressed it was important to train more nurses in Luxembourg in a meeting with representatives from the nursing profession on Friday, and to make sure that their training matches what is needed in hospitals, given the current shortage of healthcare professionals.
